Parapet flat roof residence how do i set up the wall style for an exterior wall that includes a parapet of about 15 above a flat roof.

A parapet roof involves a typical sloped roof that is concealed behind a parapet wall so that it gives the impression of being flat. At the highest point of the sloped roof the parapet is about 10 tall at the lowest point the parapet is about 14 tall. The perimeter of the roof assembly insulation is wrapped to prevent interstitial airflow from the parapet into the multilayered rigid insulation of the field of the roof. The cure for parapetitus is continuity of the control layers and letting things move when they have to move.

Max baker and stonewall jackson would be proud. This is a wall that is about 12 high total from the finish grade to the top of the parapet. It is used at a single ply roof membrane sloped per foot to a gutter like on the bainbridge residence that we designed and built above. Insulate within parapet wall cavity to depth of roof insulation if present.

A parapet roof is simply put when a building s outermost walls extend upwards past the roof around the edges most often by a few feet. Roof membrane must lap up wall to minimum of 12 above roof plane or per specifications whichever is greater.
